With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Reian Zhang, who was taken from us in a tragic car accident on Friday, February 21, 2025, alongside his cousin, Lynh Tran. Born on October 10, 2000, Reian’s life was filled with love, joy, and cherished moments with family and friends. He was deeply loved by his parents, Nga and Ray Zhang, and his sister, Reichel Zhang. His spirit will forever shine brightly in their hearts.
Reian’s kindness, generosity, and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He filled the lives of those around him with love, laughter, and meaningful connections, always offering support and encouragement. His dream of becoming a doctor was rooted in his deep desire to help others. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, Reian was excited to take the next step in his journey, having been accepted to Wayne State University and Oakland University medical schools, while eagerly awaiting responses from UCLA, UCSD, and UCI as he prepared to begin this new chapter in July.
Reian’s life was a beautiful blend of compassion and creativity. While he was devoted to his dream of becoming a doctor and helping others, he also carried a joyful, artistic spirit that lit up the lives of everyone around him. Music was one of his greatest loves—he began playing the piano at just five years old and, over time, joyfully explored instruments like the cello, guitar, and ukulele. Whenever he played, the house would fill with melodies that wrapped his mother and grandmother in warmth, love, and happiness. Photography was another of Reian’s passions; he had a special way of seeing the world, capturing beautiful moments through his lens as he lovingly developed his own unique style. Above all, he shared a deep and loving bond with his beloved dog, Fluffy.
Reian embraced an active lifestyle, cherishing time spent with both his family and friends. He treasured golfing with his dad, hiking with his mom, and running with his sister, forming lasting memories through these shared experiences. His enthusiasm for staying active extended to biking, bowling, and playing pickleball, which he enjoyed with both his family and friends. Reian also had a deep passion for traveling and exploring new places, creating unforgettable experiences with his loved ones on trips to California, Texas, Canada, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, and beyond.
Reian is survived by his loving parents, Nga and Ray, his sister Reichel. Reian was the cherished grandson of Guolun Liu and Chengshen Zhang, and May Tran. He also leaves behind aunts and uncles who adored him dearly. Among them are Loan and Dai Tran, Tuong and Kelli Nguyen, Hai and Tat Nguyen, Thuy and Scott Ameling, and Xuan Nguyen, Lily and Kevin, Ping Ping and LiYao, and a host of cousins who shared in his joyful spirit. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Dieu Nguyen.
