Wen Tao grew up fast and furious with six siblings, Lo Lan, Wen San, Lo Ling, Wen So, Lo Wen, and Wen Kuang, during the hostilities in China leading into World War II. Having grown up during the last World War, he traveled with his family throughout China, as his father led Chinese Democratic forces in battles for the Allied forces. Growing up in Taiwan after the war, he was enlisted in the Navy. Wen Tao is survived by his wife, Yen Wen, and three children, Edward, Philip and Margaret.
Wen Tao married the love of his life, Yen Wen in 1962. After the birth of his first child, Edward, Wen Tao immigrated to the Unites States, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University. He found employment at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, designing elements of the World Trade Center, Newark Airport, and the Holland Tunnel. In 1980, he left the Port Authority after nearly 20 years, for an engineering position in California, but soon found himself doing import and export business as well as infrastructure projects in China.
Wen Tao had a thirst for life and an indominable spirit, evidenced by his driving style, and his love of food and action movies, especially the James Bond franchise. He played soccer, shot pool, and played chess, which he taught to his sons and grandsons. Ever the dreamer, in the latter stages of his life, he settled into his role as doting husband and playful grandfather.
