On December 15, 2018, at the age of 80, Albert U. Buatti, Jr., a loving father and dedicated teacher, died peacefully surrounded by his four children. Albert will always be remembered for his generous spirit and commitment to family. Albert was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1st, 1938, to the late Albert and Frances Buatti. He moved to Connecticut to work as an engineer for Pratt & Whitney, where he fell in love with the Connecticut countryside. Albert is survived by his children: Christine Cooke, Albert Buatti III, Erika Monti, and Elizabeth Chen. His grandchildren are Brody (5 years), Oliver (3 years), and Ava (3 months). His eldest sister, Josephine, and her husband Tony Apuzzo predeceased Albert. He is survived by his sister Crocetta (Connie) and her husband Pasquale Apuzzo. Albert first married Maria Annino Buatti (mother of Albert and Christine), then later married Heidi Sell Buatti (mother of Erika and Elizabeth). He leaves behind many devoted family members, students, and friends. Albert was a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and also earned a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He proudly worked to establish Middlesex Community College in Middletown, Connecticut and taught there for 40 years. He believed deeply in the value of higher education for everyone. Albert proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1956-1962 for the 70th Rifle Company, 1st Marine Division. In his retirement, he served as a Marine Corps Chaplain honoring many other service members. Albert was an Executive Committee member of the Connecticut State Conference of the American Association of University Professors. In 2016, he lived out a lifelong dream of spending his last years in sunny Florida. Albert will be greatly missed; his children will continue to share his legacy of dedication to family and education. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday December 29th at 9:45 AM at St. Margaret Church, located at 66-05 79th Place, Middle Village, NY 11379. The mass will be followed by a graveside prayer service at St. John Cemetery, located at 80-01 Metropolitan Ave, Middle Village, NY 11379.
