

Arline Marie (Spendley) Mahoney-Asterita, 89 of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness on May 29th 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 8th 1936, in Budd Lake, NJ to her parents Joseph and Alvira (Sis) Spendley, Arline was the heart and soul of
her family, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Arline was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Alvira "Sis" Spendley, her husband's Edward Vincent Mahoney Sr. and Joseph Asterita, her brother Paul Spendley, brother-in-law, Stanley Gancarz and stepson, Joseph Asterita. Arline is survived by her sister and best friend Claire (Spendley) Gancarz, her sister Phyllis (Spendley) Card, sister-in-law, Susan Spendley, her eight children and their families: Edward Mahoney Jr (Sandra), Brian Mahoney (Olga), Maureen Mahoney-Whitaker (Shawn), Joseph Mahoney (Kathy), Timothy Mahoney (Donna), Marianne Mahoney-Nickerson (David), Patricia Mahoney-Santoro (Robert), Michael Mahoney, her stepchildren Julianne Asterita (Robert), Maria Asterita-DiCarlantonio, her beloved 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, her "lifelong besties", Marilyn "Aunt Mal" Haggerty and Eileen Dolan, and of course Arline's most faithful cat, Butterscotch, AKA "Mr. Butters".
Arline graduated from St. Michael's Nursing School in Newark, NJ in 1956. After raising her 8 children, she returned to nursing for several years at Southern Ocean Community Hospital (SOCH) in Stafford Township, NJ to continue her passion of caring for people.
Arline will be remembered for her beautiful smile and warm embrace. She dedicated herself to her family, always there with a listening ear and unconditional loving support. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In our hearts she lives on. We will forever honor the legacy of a remarkable women who made a lasting impact to all who knew her. A very special "thank you" to the staff at SOCH-Hackensack Meridian Hospital in Stafford Township who took such great care of her Arline for many years she battled her illness. She just loved all her doctors, nurses, and aides that she would great with a smile, even during some of her tougher days. We are eternally grateful...❤️
A visitation for Arline will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, 2 Fremont Ave, Park Ridge, NJ 07656. An interment will occur Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 11:45 AM at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Rd, Paramus, NJ 07652.
