August Ercolino, 69, of Maywood, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, after living six valiant and graceful years with ALS. Augie is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Christine. He is also survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ercolino, and his son Thomas Ercolino and wife Stephanie of Township of Washington, and two grandchildren, Myla and Leo. Augie lived with his wife, daughter, and mother-in-law, Mary Senia.
Augie was born in Jersey City in 1953 to August and Joan Ercolino (nee Marshall). He graduated from Memorial High School in West New York, and was sworn into the West New York Police force as a “special.” When a permanent position didn’t materialize, Augie began a mechanic apprenticeship at a school bus company. Augie had already been fixing up his own cars for years, and the bus company quickly realized Augie was a gifted mechanic. Before long he was handling complex repairs. He spent most of his career as a truck and auto mechanic, and retired in 2020 from Liberty Subaru in Emerson.
Augie loved spending time with his family, especially at the Jersey shore and anywhere in nature. He enjoyed gadgets and lights, and created a summertime sanctuary in the backyard. He was a trivia buff, especially when it came to music, and won many concert tickets over the years by calling in to radio contests.
Augie is predeceased by his mother and father and his sister Donna Witzig. He is survived by his brother Michael Ercolino and wife Mary, and three sisters, Danielle Mannion, Kelly Mannion, and Michelle Gaughran, and their spouses, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive their relatives and friends on Saturday, April 1, from 2-5pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS foundation, through Augie’s official ALS Walk Team, “Augie’s Avengers.”
