Dear Luderer Family,

We’ve never met but we saw your interview on CNN. We are so so sorry for the loss of Ben.  We had tears in our eyes watching it. Ben appears to have been a wonderful, loving, gentle and kind man. He was taken much too soon at his young age. Leaving a young grieving window and parents is heartbreaking.  You both did everything right in your young lives but yet it ended so wrong and so early.  It’s just so unfair.  Mrs. Luderer, we pray that you get better having the virus yourself.  May God bless you and Protect you. May you find the strength and courage to press on and live your life the way Ben would have wanted.  You are in our prayers and please know we are truly very very sorry for the loss of your dear husband.

Dear Bill, Elaine and family,  There are really no words to express how very sorry I am to hear about your tragic loss of Ben.  Although I only met Ben once while his dad and I were colleagues at THS, he was then such a terrific kid and obviously grew into an amazing young man.  Your love for him and pride in him was so apparent. Please know that heartfelt condolences, prayers and thoughts are being sent your way from so many of Bill's colleagues from Teaneck. ❤

I am crushed by the loss of Ben, at the beginning of his life, not yet really started to experience and enjoy the joys of creating a family and success in his achievements. When Leon gave me the head coaching job of the JV baseball team at Don Bosco in 2005, Ben, only a sophomore, took a leadership role among his teammates and excelled every moment he stepped in between the lines. His parents treated me with respect as well and I got to know them as classy and downright nice people.  This is an unexplainable tragedy that will hurt for quite some time, never truly disappearing. Ben made me a better coach and made it look like I knew what I was doing. We developed a special bond that every coach does with his catcher. Coaches know what I mean because when a coach has instructions for his defense, it goes through his catcher and Ben did it better than anyone. Smart, Intuitive, Proactive and with a fun loving personality. We all will miss him. Ed Spitaletta JV Head Coach 2005, DBHS graduate 1974.
