

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann McCarthy (July 11, 1923-January 25,2019) was a beloved mother of four, grandmother of five and great grandmother of six who lived her life with purpose, integrity and incredible strength. As an avid USO volunteer during WWII, Betty met and married her husband, Martin McCarthy Sr. and moved to Revere, MA to raise her family. After her husband's untimely passing, Betty moved her family to back to Bayonne, NJ to be closer to family. As a widowed single mother of four, Betty began work as a secretary in the Human Resources department of Bankers Trust. In her 25-year tenure at Bankers Trust she rose through the ranks and retired as the Assistant Treasurer, most noted for developing and writing computer code to enable the bank to move into the digital age. Not one to sit still, she remained on the bank as a consultant for 20 years before finally easing into full retirement at the age of 83. During her retirement, she dedicated her time to her grandchildren and her community. She was a member of the Emerson Police Department Senior Citizen Police Academy, was active in the Emerson Senior Center and volunteered as a Polling Official to every local, state and national election until 2012. Betty will be remembered as a passionate woman who strived for excellence and knew that hard work and determination would take her anywhere she wanted to go.
