Bridget "Bridie" McElwain

Born on June 14, 1930, in Tullaroe, County Clare, Ireland. Bridget was the daughter of Catherine and Michael Costello .

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who cherished time spent with her family. She is survived by her devoted children: Mary Petriccione and her husband Rich; Lou McElwain and his wife Maureen; and Marcella Sweeney and her husband Dennis. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Tommy and his wife Deirdre, Timmy, Lauren, Maggie, Hilary, Meghan and her husband Jim, Sean and his wife Nina, and Brendan; as well as her treasured great-grandchildren Ella and Mackenzie. Bridget is also survived by her sister-in-law Margaret O'Connor and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Louis McElwain; her brothers Tom and Michael; and her sister Marcella.

Bridget dedicated over 30 years to a distinguished career at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, where she held numerous roles and made a lasting impact. A devout and spiritual Catholic, she worshiped at her parish church, Ascension Roman Catholic Church in New Milford. She lived her life with faith, grace and devotion. Bridget was deeply proud of her Irish heritage and celebrated Irish culture throughout her life.

“Bridie” was deeply loved by all and will be in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Ascension Roman Catholic Church: 256 Azalea Drive New Milford, NJ 07646 on Wednesday April 29, 2026 at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Frances Cabrini Shrine (https://cabrinishrinenyc.org/donate/), honoring Bridget’s faith and devotion.
