Carmela is survived by Paul James Nicolardi, her devoted husband of 45 years, daughters Melissa and Nancy, son David, daughter-in-law Kerry, and grandchildren Evie, Charlie, and Jack Nicolardi. She is also survived by her sisters Anna and Santa, brother Joseph, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. Carmela joins her parents and beloved brothers Agostino, Nunziato, Vito and Salvatore in heaven.
Carmela immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1966, settling in Brooklyn NY. She earned her high school diploma while working full time in a clothing factory. She then joined the publishing Group at Moody’s Corporation for over a decade until deciding to dedicate herself full time to raising her family. She later returned to the workforce as owner and operator of a learning center where she helped hundreds of children develop their academic skills and more importantly pride in themselves regardless of their abilities.
Carmela was curious about everything and dreamed of traveling the world. Upon her retirement she fulfilled much of that dream, traveling across the globe with Paul and their many wonderful friends. She loved to host gatherings, and her cooking was legendary. Most of all, Carmela cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who loved spending time with their "Nonna". She instilled in her own children many great values including the importance of educating oneself and empathy towards all. Carmela will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, her unwavering courage, and her devotion to her family.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday, October 3 from 2-6PM.
