On Friday, January 12, 2024, Carol Haspil Coupet received her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was born on December 12, 1938, in Port-au-Prince, Ouest, Haiti, to Lise and Arnauld Haspil. She was the third of their four children.
After attending boarding school in Pennsylvania in the mid-1950s, Carol returned to immigrate to the United States in 1959. Her first job was working at the United Nations for the ambassador of Guinea, where she traveled to Europe and Africa. Then, in 1963, she met the love of her life, Joseph Coupet, and they were wed later in that same year, going on to have two children, daughters Christine and Sacha. For the next sixty years she built a life nurturing her family with love, compassion, joy and wisdom.
Carol had a deep passion for gardening and was always the first to welcome people to the neighborhood with a full tour of her picturesque yard that rivaled some of the most beautiful public parks. Those who knew her remember her warm smile, welcoming spirit and loving embrace. She was a fabulous cook who loved to entertain friends and family and her fondest memories were the occasions when people would gather to enjoy one of her memorable meals. Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a loving and caring person who always tried to bring out the best in others. She will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, and her kind and generous spirit.
She leaves behind her adoring husband of sixty years, Joseph Coupet; daughters Christine Coupet-Benjamin and Dr Sacha Coupet; son-in-law Lee Clark; her grandchildren Danielle Gregory, Sydney Benjamin, Alex Clark, and Lexie Clark; her sister Gladys Salnave (nee Haspil) and numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her brothers Gary Haspil and Arnauld Haspil, Jr. and her son-in-law Craig A Benjamin.
