The Watson Family is sorry to announce the passing of Catherine Elizabeth Halloran Watson – aka “Kay,” “Memérè,” “Grandma Kay,” “The Flower Lady,” “Mi Hija,” and “GGK.” At the ripe age of 97, Kay ultimately succumbed to a progressive infection that began in her legs and failed, over time, to respond to intensive wound care and multiple surgical interventions. But when she left this earthly scene, a band somewhere must have been playing “I Did It My Way.” To the very end, Kay had been living independently (with lots of deeply appreciated help from family, neighbors and friends) in the house that “her Buddy” had built for her back in 1952. And she really lived life there to the fullest – loving visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, with neighbors stopping by all the time - chatting with them on the phone, cooking up a treat on the stove or in the toaster oven - with an occasional little sip of “Paul” to help brighten her day. (Paul Masson chablis was her favorite wine.)
There may never have been before a pink door at the gateway to heaven, but you can bet there is one now!* And you can be sure that Kay will be waiting there with a little snack for you -- so, when your time comes, Dew Drop Inn* and join in the good times for all eternity. Meanwhile, please do celebrate today and every day here on Earth with a little extra zest in memory of Memérè! And please don't be sad - No, No, No, No, No!
(* My Mom insisted that her front door be painted bright pink and she called her home, "The Dew Drop Inn." Her door was always open!)
Kay always made it very clear that she did not want a lot of money ‘wasted’ on her funeral. So please go easy on flowers and stuff. If you believe that a donation would be in order, please consider making one to the Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps. http://www.westwoodvolunteerems.org/. Most importantly, Kay always said that the best tribute to her memory would be that, if every time you think of her, you would please find someone you love and give them a big hug for her!
For those of you who will be able to spare a moment, on such short notice, to join with us in celebrating 97 years of living life to its fullest, our daughter, Cecilia Dougherty, has been taking charge wonderfully of making arrangements.
Feel free to email or call Cecilia - (610) 427-0355) / [email protected] - if you need any additional information.
