

Cecelia A. Ritter (Praught), 76 a long time Washington Township resident and borough employee passed away on Thursday September 5, 2013 in the care and comfort of her family. Mrs. Ritter was born December 10, 1936 in Manhattan to Austin and Anna Praught (Gaughan). She married the love of her life, John Ritter in 1956 and who predeceased her in 2003. They had five children in their Bronx home. They moved to the Township in 1969 and Mrs. Ritter began working for the municipality in 1974. Over the course of her 35+ year career, she served as the Township Registrar, the Board of Health Secretary and the Recreation Department Secretary. Mrs. Ritter’s generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to her family and the community. Mrs. Ritter often extended work hours to accommodate couples needing wedding licenses and to families needing to register children for township programs. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Christine and Thomas Lennon, Joanne and Jeff McFadden, John and Joan Ritter, Tim and Elizabeth Ritter and Cecelia and Stephen Sargenti; her grandchildren, Jenifer, Brian, Matthew, Maggie, Grace, Stephen, Thomas, Ryan Elizabeth, Ben and Austin and her great granddaughter, her namesake, Cecelia Rosemary. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-laws, Rose Mary Murphy and Anne Ross and brother-in-law, Edward Ritter as well as 16 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Becker Funeral Home on Monday 10am with a 11am funeral mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Twp. of Washington. Interment will follow in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NJ Sharing Network, 691 Central Avenue, New Providence, NJ 07974 in her memory.
