

The Reverend Charles Noss Arlin, 88, educator, civil rights advocate, Episcopal clergyman, United States Army chaplain, and musician, died on May 3, 2026, of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. A longtime resident of Hillsdale, New Jersey, Father Charles spent his youth in Scranton, Pennsylvania and Utica, New York. He graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, New York, and General Theological Seminary in Manhattan.
He served as headmaster of Grace Church School in Manhattan and of the Island School in Lihue, Hawaii. He was also the long-term rector of the Church of the Holy Cross in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and he served congregations in Hillsdale, Bergenfield, Midland Park, and Beach Haven, New Jersey, and in Groton, Kingston, New City, and New York, New York.
He was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. William Aubrey Arlin and Edith Elizabeth (Noss) Arlin, as well as his sister Audrey (Arlin) Vault. He is survived by his adoring wife of 62 years, Jane (McDonough) Arlin; their children Patricia Arlin Bradley (David), Jennifer Arlin (Sam Braverman), Amy Arlin, and John Arlin; grandchildren David Bradley Jr., Grace Bradley, Sarah Braverman (Jonathan Eng), Rebecca Braverman, Robert Braverman, Robin Foster (Michael Bonilla), Margaret Foster, Zachary Arlin (Marissa Hill), Emmit Arlin, and Steven Arlin; his sisters Mary Arlin and Helen (Arlin) Storm; and his beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, New Jersey on Monday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All are welcome at a service to be held at Holy Trinity Church in Hillsdale, New Jersey on Monday, May 11, at 12:00 noon, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, New Jersey.
