Born in Switzerland, Charlotte studied to become a seamstress before beginning a career in bookkeeping. That work brought her to the United States in 1962. After arriving, she met her husband, Joseph Sumberac, on a blind date in New York City. They built a life together in River Vale, where they owned the Florentine Gardens for many years. Later in life, she found joy in working at Lindt chocolates.
Charlotte enjoyed a wide range of interests that reflected the way she spent time with those around her. She loved tennis, cooking, wine, and oil painting, and she was especially known for entertaining family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Sumberac. Charlotte is survived by her daughter Margaret Parhizkaran and Margaret’s husband, Mehdi; her daughter Heidi Williams and Heidi’s husband, Troy; her grandchildren Danielle, Laila and Laila’s husband, James, and Craig; her great-grandchildren Levi and Madison; her sister Nelly Novac and Nelly’s husband, Michael; her sister Margrit Fehr; and many nieces and nephews.
