September 28, 1935 – April 4, 2020
Dalia Capote, 84, of Hillsdale, New Jersey passed away on Friday, April 4, 2020. She was born on September 28, 1935 in the small town of Reglas in Havana, Cuba to the late Onelia Rodriguez Sanchez and Casimiro Sanchez. Dalia was married to the late Pedro Capote for 64 wonderful years. Their love knew no bounds. Dalia and Pedro immigrated to the United States in 1966 with her parents and two young children to build a life that would be admired by all who knew them.
Dalia was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughter Alina Capote Lupo, of Hillsdale, NJ and son Jose Antonio Capote, currently residing in the Philippines. She guided and encouraged her children to live a life of faith and gratitude and to reach for their highest potentials. She adored her four grandchildren, granddaughter Amanda Lupo Kent and grandson Brian Lupo, by her daughter and Justin and Nicholas Capote, by her son. After retiring as an embroiderer and seamstress, she dedicated her time to caring for Amanda and Brian and became lovingly known as Mami Dalia to all their friends in the neighborhood.
Along with her children and grandchildren, Dalia is survived by her devoted son-in-law Frank Lupo, her sister Mirta Acosta and brother-in-law Julio Acosta and their children and grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Emerita Gonzalez and Lidia Manzano and their children and grandchildren. She was blessed to have met and loved two beautiful great-grandchildren, Parker, age 3, and Cecilia, age 11 months.
Dalia enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and embroiderer and loved to garden, cook, needlepoint and read. Nothing gave her more joy than big family gatherings. She enjoyed traveling with her beloved Pedro and would spend summers in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida enjoying the company of friends from all over the U.S. whom they met there.
Dalia was a woman of strong faith and served as Eucharistic Minister for many years at the Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Bergenfield, New Jersey. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Pedro at Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Washington Township, Bergen County, New Jersey on April 8, 2020. Due to the current world circumstances the service at the mausoleum will only be witnessed by her very immediate family. In lieu of flowers and in honor all those selfless healthcare givers who gave her comfort and tender care during the last days of her life, memorial contributions may be made to the: Christian Healthcare Center Foundation 301 Sicomac Avenue Wyckoff, NJ 07481 benefitting the Employee Fund

Mami Dalia was so special to us. She was beautiful and caring and always treated each of us as family. We looked forward to seeing her with each visit to the Lupo house and without fail, MD would always be there. She’d check on us frequently, especially when we were swimming.... asking if we ate and always checking to see if we had on sunscreen. She was the best MD and we are all better for knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace with Papa. We love you Mami Dalia, we miss you & we will think about you often ♥️

Dear Alina and Jose,
I was so very saddened to hear the news of your Mom's passing. She was a beautiful, loving person that always made me feel good when I saw her. I have memories going back to when I was a young child of what a genuinely good person she was, and how she loved and cared for everyone in her life. May she rest with your Dad in heaven and watch over all of her beloveds.
I hope we can see you soon once things get back to normal...
Love to you both and your families...
