David Finbarr Saunders Jr. passed away on April 26, 2020. More commonly referred to as Dave, he leaves behind his devoted wife, Lauren, of 25 years and their four children, Collin (23), David Finbarr III (21), Colleen (16) and Shannon (13). Born May 9, 1969, he was the fourth of six children of the late David Finbarr Sr. and late Patricia McCusker Saunders. Dave lived in Westwood his entire life from Harding Avenue to Lake Street. A loving brother and uncle to Laura Saunders, her partner Özlem Çamli of Wethersfield, CT and their children Deniz and Isabelle; Matthew of Westwood; Michael, his wife Mary of Westwood and their children, Catherine, Michael, John, and Caroline; Patricia, her husband Thomas Burns of Westwood and their children John “Jack”, Connor, Luke and Patrick; and Amy, her husband Timothy McDevitt of Westwood and their children Liam, Erin, Fiona and Caitlin. A respected son-in-law to Ronald and Diane Hascup of Township of Washington and a fun-loving brother-in-law to Ryan Hascup of Warwick, NY and Robert Hascup of Maywood. Dave was a Service Technician/Pipe Fitter for PSE&G for nearly 30 years and retired in 2018 when his body didn’t allow him to continue. Despite battling disease and illness for years, his strength to persevere through a crutched life is unmatched. Dave was so grateful and appreciative for the support he received from all throughout the years. He was a huge New York Yankees and Giants fan, but an even bigger fan and supporter of the teams his children played for. Dave was an inspiring husband and father who showed unconditional love and joy towards his family. He was a great friend to the community and was always there to lend a hand and help those around him. Coach Dave was a proud mentor of his son’s Westwood youth baseball teams and a proud lifelong resident of Westwood. He will truly be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to know him.
