Born in Teaneck, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late James Patrick and Elisabeth (née Toohey) Shea, and was preceded in death by his brother, James F. Shea. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Katherine “Kay” (née Quigley) Shea, as well as his five children (David, Kathy, Michael, Patricia & Robert), eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dave graduated from St. Cecelia High School (Englewood) and Fordham University (Bronx), and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps following his graduation and his June 12, 1954 marriage to Kay. After completing his service in the Marines, Dave began a successful 30+ year career with IBM in sales and marketing in the NYC metro area. In the early sixties, Dave and Kay bought a home in Washington Township, NJ, and they spent the next four decades raising their family and actively participating in the local community and their parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel. Dave loved sports, and particularly enjoyed following the success of his favorite teams (Yankees, Giants, Knicks). He especially enjoyed his decades playing softball on many championship teams while representing the parish’s Knights of Columbus Council #5427. He volunteered much of his time over the years as a Little League coach and a basketball coach for teams in the local CYO league.
Dave always enjoyed bringing his family on vacations every summer to the Jersey Shore, and especially enjoyed walking the boardwalk and relaxing on the beach in Lavallette, NJ. He and Kay also had many wonderful times together while wintering in Longboat Key after his retirement. His was a life well lived, and he will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, and all who had the good fortune to know him.
The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday, October 19th, from 1:00-4:00. David’s life and faith will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 668 Ridgewood Road, Township of Washington, NJ at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20th. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
