

SCHOEFFEL, Dietmar Maximilian, 86, passed peacefully at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA on September 16th, 2017. Born July 8th, 1931 in Czechoslovakia, he became an Engineering Master and started two small businesses before immigrating to America in 1957. “Max” met Christl, his lovely wife of 58 years, at a dance social. He founded Schoeffel Instruments in Westwood, NJ, and later acquired McPherson Instruments of Acton, MA in 1981. Both companies manufacture scientific instruments used for spectroscopy that measure light and color. He was always active; an entrepreneur, avid sailor, hiker, and dancer. Most of all, he enjoyed coming to work at his business every day. He was a long-time resident of Hillsdale, NJ, Woodcliff Lake, NJ and currently Acton, MA. Beloved husband of Christl; devoted father of Annette, Barbara, & Erik; loving grandfather to his six grandchildren, Elena, Dominick, Christiana, Stephen, Alex and Patrick. The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Friday, September 22 from 10-11AM. A Celebration of Max’s life will be held at 11AM with interment at Westwood Cemetery in Westwood, NJ to follow.
