Dominick Lawrence Casulli, a longtime resident of Paramus, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at age 94. Dominick was a caring, hardworking and generous man who touched the lives of many during his long life.
Born in 1930 in Jersey City, NJ to immigrants Francesco Casulli and Palma Spinelli, Dom and his wife Connie attended Snyder High School and were both members of the class of 1948. He later graduated with a BS and MS from Montclair State University. Dom worked at Dumont High School for 40 years, first as a science teacher and later as a Supervisor of the Science Department. He was honored with several awards for excellence in teaching, including the Outstanding Teacher of Science award from the Fairleigh Dickinson University chapter of the Sigma Xi Society. Throughout Dom’s career, he mentored and encouraged countless students, many of whom were inspired by him to pursue their own careers in the sciences. Dom’s teaching left a profound and lasting impact, which was evident when he received over 100 heartfelt letters from former students on his 90th birthday.
Dom and Connie spent many happy years raising their family in Paramus. Their home was their pride and joy, and they welcomed family and friends for many dinners, holidays and celebrations. Dom was an avid naturalist and gardener; he spent much of his spare time designing, landscaping and tending to his beautiful yard which included a Japanese garden, vegetable garden, fishpond and hand-built pergola. Dom’s yard was the backdrop for generations of cherished memories; many an afternoon was spent by his children and grandchildren playing barefoot in the garden. It also contained the only bubblegum tree in existence, created for his children.
Dom was an enthusiastic runner and hiker. He began running as a hobby in the 1970s and went on to compete in numerous marathons. He was an active member of the Hobbyists of Ridgewood and helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Dom was predeceased by his beloved wife Constance (nee Marzullo). He is survived by his loving children Janet Hoover (James) of Manassas, VA; Judy Tan of Watertown, MA; and Glenn Casulli (Denise) of Emerson, NJ. Dom is also the cherished brother of Mary O’Donoghue of Barnegat, NJ, and the beloved grandfather of Paul (Amy Greely) and Shelby Hoover, and Emily Tan (Erik Laats). Dom leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends who looked to him for guidance and inspiration. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
