Donald F Russell

Donald F., 79, passed away on January 5, 2012 in Jupiter, FL. While in Jupiter, Donald spent much of his time volunteering at the Flagler Museum as a Docent. In 2010 he received the Docent of the Year award. Donald volunteered at the Palm Beach Historical Society, Jupiter Medical Center, and The Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Don also drove the tram at MacArthur Beach State Park. For the last twenty years he enjoyed all of the musical and cultural events that Palm Beach has to offer.

Donald was an avid traveler both domestically and internationally traveling to such places as Alaska, Mexico, Europe, Russia, Asia and the Holy Lands. While residing in Jupiter Donald attended Faith Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing with the church choir.

Donald was born in Westwood, New Jersey in 1932. He was baptized, confirmed and married in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and was a faithful member of the church choir.

He served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army from 1955-1957.

Donald was an educator in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey from 1954 until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, Don moved to Jupiter where he resided until his passing.

Don is survived by his children Kenneth Russell of Somerset, NJ; Susan (Richard) Tripodi of Manassas, VA and Dianne (Thomas) Voorhis of River Vale, NJ; five grandchildren Claudia Russell, Megen and Nina Tripodi, Matthew and Scott Voorhis, and by a sister, Barbara (Charles) Maul of Benton Harbor, MI. Don was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 1973 and sister Doris in 2001.

The family will receive their friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9PM. Memorial service at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Westwood, NJ on Friday at 10AM. Graveside service at Westwood Cemetery immediately following.
