

Doris Smith of Westwood ,NJ, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother,
passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 12,2022 at the age of 101. Born in
Newark, NJ, to Dulcie and Lawrence Molten, she grew up in New Milford, NJ, and attended
Hackensack High School and later received her Nursing Degree from Englewood School of
Nursing. Wife of the late Al Smith (deceased 1999) beloved mother of Bob, Don, Al, and Jim Smith all of Westwood. Raising four boys all who played in various sports, Doris became an avid sports fan as she supported “her boys” all the way from various youth programs through high school. She found time to be a Team Mother for her boys baseball teams and Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was proud of and very much enjoyed all of her 10 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.
As an RN , Doris worked at both Hackensack and Pascack Valley hospitals and also served as the school nurse at Meadowbrook School in Hillsdale for 15 years. Living in Westwood for nearly 75 years, Doris was very active in her community. She was a member of the Westwood Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary for over 70 years, delivered Meals on Wheels well into her 90’s, served on the Board of Westwood House and was a member of Westwood Senior Fellowship, St. Andrew’s 50+ Club, and the Sassy Dancers of Westwood. She also volunteered her time helping out at Westwood Recreation’s Pre-School program.
In retirement, Doris enjoyed writing poetry. A collection of her poems were actually published in a booklet by a parishioner in her local church. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsdale. Doris was a kind and caring person and had many friends. She felt blessed to have such wonderful and helpful longtime neighbors. She will be missed by many. She is now in Heaven and reunited with her husband of 57 years Al, her eldest son Bob, grandson Brian, and great-grandson Andrew.
The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ, on Friday, April 15 from 4pm-8pm. A short Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 16 at 10 am at Becker’s with interment to follow at George Washington Cemetery in Paramus. The United Methodist Church in Hillsdale, NJ or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
