E. Joyce Stempel, 74 of River Vale, NJ passed away on December 18, 2013 at her home. Born in Paterson, NJ, she lived in Clifton, NJ before moving to River Vale in 1968. Joyce was a registered nurse at Dunroven Nursing Home in Cresskill, NJ. After her nursing career, Joyce was an administrative assistant for CSI in Montvale, NJ. She was a previous president for the River Vale Friends of the Library and was involved in the River Vale Boy Scouts. She was predeceased by her sister, Karen Nacon and is survived by her husband of 52 years, H. Theodore “Ted” Stempel; her daughter, Cynthia Janke and her husband Raymond; her son, Alan Stempel and his wife Nancy and her two grandchildren, Keeley and Remy Stempel. A memorial service will be held on Monday December 23rd at 10am at Hillsdale United Methodist Church, 349 Hillsdale Ave., Hillsdale, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to the River Vale Friends of the Library or Hillsdale United Methodist Church.
