Eleanor Utenwoldt, 93, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, just two days before the 50th anniversary of the death of her beloved husband, Roland Utenwoldt, who passed away on June 14, 1974.
Eleanor was born in Manhattan, NY, on April 30, 1931, to William and Theresa Lauterbach. She had one younger brother, William, who passed away in 2004. Growing up in The Bronx, she graduated from Walton High School in 1949. Eleanor became a secretary, working at a publishing company and then Eastman Kodak. She met the love of her life, Roland, at a New Year's Eve party and they married on July 10, 1954. She loved to reminisce about their newlywed days living on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village. They eventually moved to Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and raised their two children there.
Eleanor loved Jesus with all her heart and took great pleasure in sharing her faith with others. She loved to travel, and took missions trips to Russia and Argentina. Eleanor actively participated in church life at Risen King Alliance Church in New City, was a passionate prayer warrior, and loved nurturing and encouraging people in their faith. She loved nature, flowers and gardening, and, of course, her family.
Eleanor is survived by her son Roland Mark Utenwoldt of Westwood, NJ, her daughter Karin Bar and husband Greg of Centerville, MA; her grandchildren Bethany Hofmann, Jordan Bar, Erich Utenwoldt, and Kurt Utenwoldt; and great-grandchildren Conor and Sophia Hofmann and Britton Bar. She was very pleased to recently learn that a fourth great grandchild is on the way! She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Barbara Lauterbach of the Bronx, NY, and niece Linda Monteiro and family.
A celebration of life will be held at Risen King Alliance Church in the near future.
Donations in her memory may be sent to Risen King Alliance Church, 190 Hempstead Road, New City, NY 10956.
