HIEMER, Fred J., 92 of Twp. Of Washington, NJ, passed away at home on August 20, 2016. Born August 6, 1924 in New York, NY he was the son of the late Jacob and Katherina Hiemer, he moved with his parents to Tenafly NJ in 1951 and became a permanent resident of Twp. Of Washington in 1965. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Linda (nee Liberman), his loving children Michael, Katherine and Christine, his cherished granddaughter Valerie, his cousin Charles Gulbe, sister-in-law Rosanne Gulbe and their families. Fred was very proud to be a Marine. He was the first to enlist for his age group in March of 1943, serving our country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII as part of AWS-11 until May 1946 when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Fred was a Lifetime Achievement Award winner for being one of the prime movers in creating the Bergen County Electrical Contractors Association (BCECA), the New Jersey Electrical Contractors Association (NJECA) and the New Jersey Electrical Contractors Licensing Act over sixty years ago. Fred took the offices of Executive Secretary and Financial Secretary for BCECA “temporarily” in 1955 and never looked back. In 1962 he established his own electrical contracting business and was the long-time owner and operator of Hiemer Electric in Tenafly and the surrounding towns. He never really retired as he would often work with his son and was a constant advocate for electricians through BCECA. Fred enjoyed life, loved his dogs and cat, was an avid Jets fan, a lover of a good scotch and Sinatra music, but what he enjoyed most of all was spending time with family and friends. The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 3-7PM. A Service celebrating Fred’s life and faith will be held at the funeral home Thursday, August 25th with interment at Garden Of Memories Cemetery in Twp. Of Washington, NJ to follow.
