Fukuko Takasaki Pedecine, age 95 of Hillsdale, New Jersey, passed away November 7, 2019. Fukuko was born February 6, 1924,and raised in Tokyo, Japan, in an artistic family. She graduated from a private girls school, and the Sugino Doreme Academy, a fashion institute. As an artist, she was professionally known as Maya Pedecine. Her paintings were shown in the Nitten national fine arts annual exhibition, and other group shows. She had solo exhibitions for her painting and etchings at art galleries in Tokyo. Maya also enjoyed a haiku poetry.

Before meeting her late husband, Thomas A. Pedecine, she worked at the University of Tokyo. Thomas and Fukuko met after the war, married, lived and raised their family in Japan. Creative, funny, and curious, she enjoyed every aspect of life, and her laugh was joyful and infectious. Most importantly she endowed an appreciation of arts and culture to her children. After retirement, Thomas and Fukuko moved to Hillsdale, N.J., where she continued to be active writing haiku poems.

Survivors include her three children, Antonetta Jun, Thomas Ryo, Raphael Yu and Puppy - the family Akita;her sister-in-law, Sister Raffeline of the Sisters of the Cross; and the Schrama, Consales, and Botte families, as well as extended family in Japan. The family is grateful and appreciative of Raphael's devoted and loving care for her in the last years of her life. We also wish to thank all of those who helped in her care during her last days. Her viewing and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a favorite charity.
