

George H. Odenwaller 87, of Hillsdale, NJ passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012. He was born in Cliffside Park and resided for the last fifty years in Hillsdale. During World War II he served as a US Air Force Staff Sergeant with the 91st Bomb Group in Europe as aB17 ball turret gunner which flew 26 successful missions. He was a talented commercial prototype artisan for most of his life and was active in the VFW, Franklin Lakes chapter, the Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of NJ inTeterboro and the Metropolitan Sports Squadron (model airplane group) which meets at the Teaneck Armory. Over the years this hobby developed and he drew many WW II and some WW I model plane designs to scale followed by his construction of the planes. He was also consulted by many historians of those periods for information about planes as well as his experiences during WW II. George is predeceased by his son George M. Odenwaller. He is survived by Eva, his beloved wife of 50 years, his brother-in-law, JohnKrumm and his wife Genevieve; his sister-in-law, Catherine Hunt and her husband Donald; their nieces and nephews, SuzanneYerdon and her husband Ted, Douglas Hunt and his wife Michelle, JenniferLackland and her husband Bruce, JohnKrumm and his wife Laura, Randy Wagner and his wife Sue, Paula Wagner Lietz, and many grand-nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 5th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 6th at the Christ Lutheran Church, 32Pascack Road, Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Interment will be private at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
