GORGA, Gloria C. , “Mimi,” passed peacefully in her sleep into the arms of her Savior in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 13th at the age of 91. She was the loving mother of Anthony, Angela, and Kathleena Gorga; son-in-laws, Scotty Kappeler and Daniel Lent; grandmother of Sonia Kappeler and Christopher Gorga; and dear friend of her devoted care giver, Patricia Goyochea. She is survived by her sister, Jean Bellotti and her husband, Henry; her sister Lorraine Dudek; and is now reunited with her brother, the late Joseph Barone and her nephew, the late Jim Bellotti.
Gloria was born in West New York, NJ and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She worked in banking for Manufacturer’s Trust before marrying the late Fiore Gorga in 1950 and moved to Bergen County, New Jersey to raise her family. Generous in so many ways, Gloria cared about people. Her strong faith in God and her practice of devotion was part of her daily routine. She was constantly saying rosaries for family, friends and even strangers whether there was a pressing need or not. Gloria was a caring, loving mother and a supportive, generous and loyal friend. A truly beautiful person inside and out, Gloria always remembered birthdays and never failed to send out thoughtful cards or to find the perfect gift for whatever occasion. She had a way of making people always feel special and loved. As matriarch, Gloria was an amazing cook and good food was just one of the ways that she nourished her family. An accomplished baker, she was famous for her signature cheesecake and sour cream pound cake. She loved to try new recipes and create ones of her own. Ahead of her time, Gloria became very interested in the subject of good nutrition and was tuned in to its link to good health decades before it became popular. She was always interested in new ideas about health and well-being and was a voracious reader on this topic. She loved the arts and loved to treat her family and friends to the ballet and dinner in NYC. She and her sister-in-law, the late Lillian Gorga, were independent pals who both regularly enjoyed theatre and opera matinees together. Gloria had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh, to be silly and have fun. She had a deep appreciation for nature and beauty and loved her animals. She is reunited with her sweet ones, Toostie, Nala, Sadie and Bea. Visitation at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood on Wednesday 4-7 PM.
