Graciela Romero

Graciela Romero, 92, of Paramus, NJ, passed away on Thursday, July 4th, 2024. Graciela was born on June 28, 1932 to parents Alfredo and Dolores Posada Sarmiento in Bogota, Colombia. She graduated from a Culinary School in Colombia in 1962 and was a very talented cook.

She is predeceased by her husband, Guillermo “Romerito” Romero, who passed away in 2020, as well as by four of her siblings. She is survived by her son John and his wife Christine as well as her beloved granddaughters Emily, Gabrielle, and Isabelle and her sisters Marina and Clara.

Guillermo & Graciela shared a happy marriage of over 60 years. They entertained often in their home in Paramus, NJ. Everyone looked forward to their large Thanksgiving gatherings that often included more than 40 people. Graciela & Guillermo were members of the R.C. Church of the Annunciation in Paramus, NJ.

With her degree in Culinary, Graciela had a love for cooking and frequently made authentic Colombian food for herself and her family. Her family has many memories of her in the kitchen, where she shared her love for cooking and her recipes with her granddaughters. Her arroz con pollo, carne molida, empanadas, arepas, cakes and pastries will be fondly remembered.

Graciela had a way of making friends everywhere she went. Her kindness and warmth drew people towards her and made them feel loved. She made friends at church, at the bank, during her stay in the hospital, and even on her weekly trips to Costco with her son and granddaughters. She was loved and cared for by so many and will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.

The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd., Westwood, NJ on Friday, July 12th from 4–8 PM for a Celebration of her life. A future inurnment will be at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions made in Graciela's name to The Salvation Army, a charity that she and her husband Guillermo frequently contributed to @ Give.SalvationArmyUSA.org
