Ioannis (John) Papazoglou, age 83, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021. While he died after succumbing to complications from Covid-19, he will be remembered for his kindness of spirit, gentleness and commitment to family. Born in Anidro, Greece, as a young man, John immigrated to New Jersey in pursuit of the American Dream. As business man and chef, John worked honestly and with great commitment to his craft at various diner establishments in Bergen County, NJ. His culinary talents fed thousands of people for decades until his retirement.
In August 1979, John married Elsa of Alexandria, Greece. Their wedding was the talk of the town, as the handsome “Amerikano” came to wed his beautiful Greek bride. A few years later, John and Elsa were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Maria Ioanna, who brought great joy to her parents. As a child, Maria was her father’s shadow, always following him around and ‘assisting’ him with any home projects. She was and remained his pride and joy.
John was preceded in death by his parents Ioakim and Maria, brother Georgios and his niece Anna. He is survived by his wife Elsa, daughter Maria, sisters Christina and Stratigoula, and extended family both in the US and in Greece. Life long friends are saddened by his passing.
Arrangements have been coordinated by Becker Funeral Home. On Wednesday, April 14, 2021 there will be a viewing at 10am with the funeral service to immediately follow at 11am at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ. John will be interred at George Washington Cemetery, in Paramus, NJ.
