

James Joyce, longtime resident of Township of Washington, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. Beloved husband of Jacqueline Joyce. Devoted father of Brenda (Alfonso) Hernandez, Kathleen (Stephen) Flatley and Laura (Patrick) Gallagher. Dear brother of Alice Joyce. Loving grandfather of Brian, Kelly, Patrick, Caitlin, Michael and Ava.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Port Washington, NY as a child and Township of Washington for over 55 years where he served as President of the Golden Seniors. His playful sense of humor will be remembered and cherished by those who knew him. He attended La Salle Military Academy. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University where he majored in Chemistry. He was in the US Army Signal Corps as a reservist. He began his career as a chemical engineer at Lever Brothers in Edgewater, NJ. He became a Sales Engineer, providing sales and technical assistance to clients such as Exxon and General Electric. Later in his career he managed sales teams, eventually retiring in 2002 from Miller Energy. He was also an adjunct professor at Stevens Institute of Technology.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. He was an amateur radio enthusiast and longtime president of the Bergen Amateur Radio Association where he was known by his call sign K2ZO and previously by WB2MEE.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, June 6th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood.
