Jane Reeve passed away peacefully at her home in Wanaque, NJ on May 27, 2022, at the age of 87. Jane and her husband Paul were longtime residents of River Vale, NJ, where they raised their four daughters. Several years ago, they moved to Wanaque, NJ to be near family. Jane and Paul were members of Trinity Reformed Church in Old Tappan, NJ for many years. In recent years they have attended Jacksonville Chapel in Lincoln Park.
Jane was a graduate of Dwight Morrow High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Trenton State Teacher’s College. She worked as an elementary school teacher for her entire career in River Vale, most of that time at Roberge Elementary School; the last few years at Woodside School. She was a creative and enthusiastic teacher, who was always up with the times, well-loved for her role as the pianist at school concerts and for her classes, “rap” routines with her kids, and other unique learning experiences she developed for her students.
Jane and Paul both loved the Jersey shore and spent many years vacationing there, starting when their daughters were young. This eventually led them to purchase a cottage of their own in Ocean Beach. One of her favorite evening pastimes was to walk through the Ocean Beach neighborhood to gather ideas for upgrades and renovations. When it came to renovations, Paul was the carpenter and Jane was the Executive Supervisor. In later years, all her children appreciated her willingness to engage with the details of and shopping for their renovation projects.
Jane was a collector of children’s picture books, and also had an impressive collection of Nancy Drew Mysteries. She was an active member at Trinity Reformed Church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the “Crafty Ladies”, a group that created craft items for sale in support of the church. In later years she participated in Community Bible Study of Midland Park and enjoyed teaching their children’s classes. Jane enjoyed spending much quality time with various groups of friends, including former coworkers from River Vale, college friends, the Curves group and the Trinity “lunch club”. Who can forget all the trips she went on with her teacher friends!
Jane is survived by her daughters Cathy, Laurie and her husband Mike, Debbie and her husband Ron, and predeceased by her husband Paul, daughter Amy and her husband Paul. She is also survived by her three granddaughters - Kate, Lucie, and Joanna, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 31 at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Reformed Church, at 292 Old Tappan Road, Old Tappan, NJ on Wednesday June 1 starting at 10:00 am.
