Janice Maria Polito, 82, of Palm City, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Beloved wife of 62 years of Michael Joseph Polito (originally of Bloomfield, NJ). Devoted mother of Michael Robert Polito (New York, NY) and Kenneth John Polito (Palm City, FL). Dear sister of Mariann Licato (Houston, TX) and Edwina Conte (Warrington, PA). Loving godmother of Robert Licato (Houston, TX), Peter Carsillo (Clermont, FL), and Daniel Conte (Warrington, PA), and Aunt Jan to all her beautiful nieces and nephews. Daughter of Salvatore & Marietta Crisafulli, born in Newark, NJ, in 1941 and lived in Maplewood, NJ for 7 years. Janice was a Marketing Manager in the Business Solutions division of (now Konica) Minolta Corporation in Ramsey, NJ, and owned her own business, AccuType Clerical Service.
Janice will be remembered for her incredible omnipresent smile, her gift of starting conversations with everyone, even strangers (just like her father) and her love of all gatherings with family and friends. She was a founding member and logo designer of the Cracked Bunch of Westwood, NJ, made up of her dear friends Peggy & Jim Mendler, Grace & Joe Fulco, Jean & Steve Palma, and Sue & Rich Michelson. Janice loved cooking/baking (and was extremely good at it – remember epic Thanksgiving meals, cream puffs, and trays of 15 different kinds of Christmas cookies!). She delighted in taking trips with friends and family, including seeing the country with Mariann, brother-in-law Joe and their mutual friends, fun adventures with the Cracked Bunch, road trips with Aunt El and Uncle Mario in the station wagon (Disney!), and exploring different cultures overseas like in Japan and Italy (where her ancestors originated). Janice had a deep appreciation for the wonders of nature, especially the beauty of flowers and joy of watching animals, with chimpanzees as her favorite. She took pleasure in relaxing in front of the tv for classic movies on TCM or late-night monologues. Janice also enjoyed taking photos (with the talking camera from Minolta), playing bridge and other card games, conquering challenging Word Search puzzles, and admiring the “sparkles” at sunset of her lake view from her comforting lanai.
The family will receive their relatives and friends on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A mass celebrating Janice’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church in the Township of Washington, NJ. The interment entombment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association on their website at https://www.alz.org or by calling 1-800-272-3900. Thank you.
