I have so many cherished memories of my grandmother. From her stories at the orphanage with Aunt Jo, her love for Grandpa, her many dirty comments that always make me laugh and her beautiful singing voice that has always soothed me. These last few years of watching Grandma get sicker and weaker has been so difficult and her failing to recognize me initially during our last few visits broke my heart. But even then she would still call me beautiful and hold my hand the entire visit. I wish I could hold on to your hand right now. Every time I saw her I'd say "I love you Grandma" and she would always respond "I love you more." I love YOU more Grandma and I'll miss you everyday. Give Grandpa a kiss for me, I'm happy you two are together at last. 

There are so many memories of you Grandma that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I think my favorite memories were anytime I surprised you with a visit. Seeing your face light up as you opened up that front door, smiling with shock and excitement, made me the happiest grandson in the world.

I admired how much heart and toughness you had. Only you could have created such an incredible family after growing up as an orphan with 13 siblings. You never were afraid to say what was on your mind and tell it like it is and always knew how to make the room laugh with an edgy joke. 

Even after you left Knickerbocker road, being with you always made me feel at home. I wish I could surprise you one more time right now and spend an afternoon with you. One more afternoon where you could do your puzzles and we could just sit and watch the Golden Girls or Reba McEntire. One more soda and tootsie roll pop you could offer up to me. One more Yankee game to watch to hear you justifiably heckle our bullpen. One more hug. 

I love you Grandma! Rest in peace in Heaven with Grandpa, Uncle Bill, and Heather.

From hearing about her life growing up in the orphanage with Aunt Jo, her love for Grandpa, her dirty comments that always made me laugh, and her beautiful singing voice that has always soothed me. These last few years watching her get sicker and weaker have been very difficult as she began not to recognize me on our visits. Yet every time I'd say "I love you" she would follow with "I love you more." I love YOU more Grandma. Give Grandpa a kiss for me, I'm happy you two are together at last. 

There are simply too many. In such an unfortunate time, I consider myself lucky to have over 30 years worth of memories with Jean Ruth Macchio. Even typing her name is surreal because she was always known and referred to as Grandma. 

For many years she represented an escape from my parents, who most likely wanted to escape me just as much. She would elicit laughter like no other. I never knew what she was going to say next, but I always looked forward to it. Above all, she was inspiring. From her tales growing up in an orphanage, waiting on famous Yankee players and her tootsie roll romance with my predeceased Grandpa. She was quite the character and I was honored to be part of her show.  

To make a long post short, my favorite memory was how she always told me I had no ass. It was one of the few arguments we ever had. 

I will always have the greatest memories of our phone calls and conversations....you have been so generous to me over the years.  I loved the nick name you always called me, "Favorite"...you will remain in my heart until we meet again...your loving niece, Favorite xo


Oh Dear Jean ,
I can not think of a time that you and I were together and did not Laugh ! You my Dear were one of the most Funniest and Real people I have ever met!  I will keep these wonderful memories in my Heart forever and can not thank you enough for that . Rest in Peace you Beautiful Soul xoxoxo Tell Bill I said Hi What a Great guy too  !! xoxox xoxo
