Jennie Zappala

Jennie Zappala (née DeLuccia) passed away on August 6, 2025, at the age of 103, surrounded by her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Jennie was the matriarch of her family.

Born to Italian immigrant parents in Paterson, Jennie was a hard worker all her life, working in a cleaners until retirement as a clothes presser by hand. She knew how to expertly repair clothing, and even made outfits for her children from scratch. She was also a homemaker and an expert cook, making all of the Italian dishes and desserts throughout her life.

Jennie had a love for crooner singers like Frank Sinatra, and trips to the Atlantic City casino. She was sharp, strong, and optimistic throughout her life, and credited her longevity to gratitude and daily routines of vitamins and stretching.

She is survived by her daughter Rosemarie McDermott (Thomas), grandchildren Sean McDermott (Katie) and Kara Randle (Miles), great-grandchildren Molly and Elizabeth, and many extended family members. She was predeceased by her daughter Nina, son-in-law Michael, niece Salvatrice, and all of her siblings.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 25th at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 286 Haledon Ave, Prospect Park.
