John Cuffe was the first person I ever met in Hillsdale when he came to our home on a cold February night to bring us oil for our furnace. He was a kind, caring man who was always willing to go the extra mile to help someone. God bless you John and your loving family.

I have warm memories of John especially the Easter Vigil my husband and I attended at St. John's. My husband was on oxygen and we did not know about the candle procession. Bill had already found a seat and John stood by his pew so that no one with candles would get close to him. John was such a special person and did so much in the Church and School for many years. The kids loved him! My condolences to Kathleen and all his family. He is at peace now.

Growing up in Hillsdale and attending church and school at St John the Baptist , everyone knew and loved Mr Cuffe. I have so many great memories of Mr Cuffe and the Cuffe family. He was there consoling me when I was standing in the hall outside the principal's office at St John's. He would be telling stories after working Bingo on Saturday nights at St John's while having pizza and beer.
Many times he would be in our basement on Oak Street fixing our oil burning heating furnace.
My condolences and hugs to the whole Cuffe Family. I know in my heart he is with my Mom & Dad in Heaven probably singing some old Irish songs while having a beer or two.
Love you guys and know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love,
Rick Boland and Family

My first day at SJA back in 2006 John said to me a "guy gym teacher" the kids need that. That started our friendship. For the next 10 years or so I heard countless stories of his wife, kids, life in general. I will always cherish those. When I started my driving school he said I have your first student. His granddaughter, Taylor. That's the kind of guy he was...he got me started. Then he proceeded to tell me countless stories of his driving experiences with Taylor. That's what I'll miss the stories and the soul he told them with...

R.I.P. Mr. Cuffe ...you were indeed part of the fabric that makes up our little community of Hillsdale. Your presence never went unnoticed and you were a good friend to many and loved by all who were lucky 🍀 enough to know you. You were bigger then life and you will always be remembered.... may our Lord hold you in the palm of his hand in eternal rest. Godspeed.

To the Cuffe Family,
The entire St. John's Academy sends condolences and prayers to you. Mr. Cuffe is remembered as a faithful man who meant so very much to all the teachers and students of the school. Teachers recall his great stories and students recall how he greeted them each morning at the door.
I recall as a new principal as he came the first week I was there and told me about the building and we sat and had coffee together.
Mr. Cuffe was St. John's and his legacy will live forever in our school.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cuffe family, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Mr. Cuffe was a great man. I have fond memories of him coming into the Coffee Stop for a cup to go when working, always with a smile or a wink for me. I’d like to think he’s sitting in his chair in the family room watching Columbo. May he rest in peace.
With much sympathy,

The Cuffe’s and The Clark’s were attached are the hips growing up. Mr. Cuffe was always outside either making us laugh or asking where John (my dad) was. He was always smiling, talked to everyone who walked past, always yelling at Robert and Billy to get in the house and most of all always welcomed the Clark’s into his backyard or house. He will surely be missed by everyone. We love you Mr. Cuffe. Xoxoxox. Rest In Peace and hopefully Buttons will come running to you. Love, Lisa.

My memories of your Dad go so far back. I remember being in first grade at St. John’s in Sr. Joan Bridget’s class with Mr. Cuffe always popping in to say hello. Saturday night Bingo with my Dad and that group of wonderful men that worked it. Countless fairs at St. John’s, Sunday morning usher and counting the collections at the rectory, and yes, your Dad spent many hours in our basement keeping the old oil burner going which broke often back in the day. When I started directing the shows at St. John’s 15 years ago, I was thrilled to see your Dad once again working at the school. My children got to know and love him there. He would tell them stories about their Grandfather (Matt Boland) whom they never got to know and they looked up to your Dad like a grandfather as did all the kids at the school. They loved him. He would stop us in the parking lot to have us listen to a recording of his brother singing Irish songs. He was so proud. I missed his presence and humor at the school when he retired but continued to run into him in town. Mr Cuffe is a Hillsdale treasure and legend and will never be forgotten. Prayers and love to all the Cuffe family at this difficult time and hugs to all. The Boland and Ramella families.

This is still so surreal to me. I always felt Papa would live forever but I’m so glad i had him as a grandfather who really felt like a father to me. He was a funny, sarcastic, hard working, respected man and I’m proud to say he was a big part of my life. I’ll always remember him sitting in the backyard, listening to his Irish music with a sprite in his hand and the sun on his face. I learned to be a respectful, hard working, and caring person because of him and not a day will go by without me thinking of him up in heaven at peace. He always said I’m his Tayla and he’s my papa- forever

My sympathy to family, after 40 years it is sad to see customers and friends pass. I think back on a lot of jokes and memories with John. Another constant presence in our life is gone but will be remembered. From all of us at Timmy's Service Center.

Dearest Kathleen and family.
I was so terribly sorry to hear about John! I truly loved him! He was a grandfather to all the students in Saint John's Academy! My class loved when he came to read stories to them especially on Saint Patrick's Day. He greeted us all every morning with his smile and of course coffee. His work wives he called us as he gave us bear hugs whenever he knew we needed them. He could fix anything ! To say he was a treasure is an understatement! I found it amazing that it was Holy Saturday when he returned home to Jesus, he probably had to usher and get God to see things his way!
Love and prayers for you all!
