

John J. Dorritie, 94, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. John was born on November 6, 1931 and raised in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC before raising his own family in East Northport, Long Island, followed by a long and enjoyable retirement at the Renaissance in Manchester Township, New Jersey. He lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, community, and country.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Diane Dorritie; his adored mother, Mary Busweiler Dorritie; and his sisters, Marie Hanson & Agnes Olsen. John was the loving Dad to his daughter Kristine Racanelli & her husband Joseph as well as to his son Steven Dorritie & his wife Elizabeth. John delighted in being "Pa" to Joseph & his fiancée Nisha; Brooke; Michael & his wife Emma; Matthew & his wife Lindsey, and their daughter Lillian; and Andrew & his wife Anne. John is also survived by his brother Frank Dorritie & his wife Shirley.
John began his career as a longshoreman before enlisting in the Army, where he proudly served from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. After his military service, he transitioned to a career in construction as a wire lather (Union 46) and later as a sales representative. Known for his strong work ethic and commitment to those around him, John left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A consummate storyteller with a great sense of humor, his ability to connect with people and make friends was unmatched. As espoused by the Irish proverb, "Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet”. He enjoyed sharing stories over a cigar and Manhattan, always bringing laughter and joy to those around him.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, New Jersey, followed by a toast to honor his life at a nearby establishment. A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, April 17th, at 10:45 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Huntington, NY. Innichement will take place immediately after at St. Patrick Cemetery, followed by a luncheon.
In honor of John’s memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
