John was the beloved husband of Erma Doyle and a devoted father to his two children, John Doyle Jr. (Katherine) and Loretta Scibetta (Steven). He was a proud grandfather to his grandson, Evander John Doyle Scibetta, who brought him tremendous joy.
Born to Helen and James Doyle, John was a loving brother to Kathleen Shapiro (Art), James Doyle (Joan), and Tom Doyle (Mary). Above all, John cherished his family.
John proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Navy in Okinawa, Japan. Following his military service, he spent many years working for the United States Postal Service before embarking on a second career in nursing. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Ramapo College.
John was a lifelong and loyal New York sports fan, especially of the New York Yankees and New York Knicks. Through the highs and lows, his loyalty never wavered, and he took particular joy in seeing the Knicks’ success this year after waiting so many years to see his team make another memorable run. John also was an avid fan of Duke basketball and Notre Dame college football, a sports love he inherited from his dad.
John will be remembered for his love to his family and his service to his country and community. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandson, siblings, extended family, and friends.
The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, September 3rd, from 4-8PM. A Mass celebrating John's life and faith will be held at Our Lady Of Good Counsel R.C. Church on Friday, September 4th at 10AM with interment at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY to follow.
