John Keith Westervelt, 59, of Saddle Brook, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Raised in Teaneck, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, sports coach, electrician, and man of strong faith.
John proudly served as a United States Marine and later dedicated 20+ years of his career to the IBEW as a union electrician. His years as a union member brought him lifelong friendships and a brotherhood that meant so much to him.
John also spent many years coaching championship football for the Westwood Wolverines and Paramus Catholic High School. Although he stepped away from his role as a football coach a decade ago, the impact he made on his players remained a meaningful part of his life and the lives of those he coached. His role as a coach didn’t end once he stepped off the football field; he continued to guide, support, and encourage the people around him throughout his life.
John enjoyed fishing, watching classic comedies, listening to rock music, but most of all, spending time with his family. He was the beloved husband of Marianne Westervelt and a devoted father to John Westervelt and his wife, Izzy; Teresa O’Donnell and her husband, Blake; Louis Westervelt and his wife, Victoria; Isabella Westervelt and her partner, Antonio Guarino; and Stephen Westervelt. He was a loving grandfather to Shiquana, Thomas, David, and Anthony, who brought him immeasurable joy.
He is additionally survived by his brother Scott Westervelt and his loving sister, Tracy Westervelt, along with many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his parents, John Westervelt and Anita Costine, and his brother, Stephen Westervelt.
John’s faith, service, dedication to his work, love of mentorship, and the countless lives he touched will remain a lasting part of his legacy. Above all, he was a man who cherished his family deeply and was deeply loved in return.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life to honor him at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Sunday August 30th from 2:00-7:00 PM. Please bring a smile and a memory to share.
