Karen Theresa Valvanis

Karen Theresa Valvanis, nee Monti, passed on Monday, August 10, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, John Valvanis, was the mother of Nicholas John Valvanis (Lauren) and Kristen Fredericksen (Eric), and the grandmother of Charlotte and Alexander Valvanis and Naya, Micah and Ruby Fredericksen. She was the sister of Candy Velez, Terry Monti (Claire), and Rick Monti (Lorraine), and was predeceased by her parents, Reno and Dorothy Monti (Wrightson).

Karen was born in Englewood, New Jersey on April 3, 1947, grew up in Dumont, New Jersey and lived in River Vale, New Jersey for nearly 50 years. She was a graduate of Bloomfield College, and worked much of her life as a social worker for the Bergen County Board of Social Services. She was a lover of people and places, stories and history.

The family will receive their relatives and friends at the Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, New Jersey on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment is Private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood in her honor.
