

Magarelli, Louis D., 82, of Emerson, passed peacefully at home on Sept. 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Theresa (née Laido) for 61 years. Loving father of Maura Berruti (Paul), Linda Yelvington (Lee), Carole Dooley (Christopher), Louis Jr (Mimi) and Gregory (Diane). Cherished grandfather of Kara, Paul Jr, Jeffrey, Allison, Daniel, Louis III, Sarah, Jack, Gregory Jr and Thomas. Predeceased by parents, Mauro and Vincenza (née Scoccimaro), and brother Dominick. Survived by sister, Laura Manente. A Hoboken native, Lou also resided in Ridgefield Park, Franklin Lakes, Manchester, Barnegat and Manasquan. He was an Army Veteran, stationed in Germany, and received a B.S. from FDU. Lou was a career banker, retiring in 1998 as Senior Vice President, Marketing/New Development, from The Trust Company of New Jersey.
A committed service leader, Lou founded the Young Republicans Club of Ridgefield Park; was VP and Trustee of the Ridgefield Park Public Library; sat on the Board of Directors of Palisades General Hospital; and was an Arbiter on the Hudson County Attorney Ethics Review Board. Lou was passionate about his work for the American Lung Association, serving as President, VP and Treasurer of the Association's Central NJ affiliate. He went on to serve on the Board of Directors of the Association's NJ Chapter, and was a Representative Director of the Association's National Board. Lou was the founding Chairman of the Central NJ affiliate's Annual Christmas Seal Ball and Executive Chairman of the NJ Chapter's Ball. He also chaired anti-smoking and other health/wellness campaigns. Lou was elected to the NJ Committee Service Hall of Fame by the American Lung Association of NJ.
Services were private. A memorial donation to the American Lung Association may be made in Lou’s name.
