I became a friend of Louis after he represented my teenage son in false arrest lawsuit.... He invited me to a few of his Christmas parties.... And for some reason very early this morning I won't with him on my mind and realize I'm I had not gotten any messages from him lately and wondering if he was celebrating this holiday season... Sadly to find out of his passing... But happy to know that he will be celebrating still with the true angels.... My condolences to his lovely wife and children and all of his family memberes.... I feel blessed to have shared good times with him.

I knew Louis Zayas in law school at the University of Virginia.  We both graduated in 1993 and I lost touch with him at that time.  A fellow classmate just alerted me to Louis' recent death.  I am so sorry to hear of this.

Louis was a man who had a real joy for life when I knew him circa 1990-1993.  (I am impressed that he and Marguerite married and then stayed married.  Good for them.)  Louis was someone who could always bring a smile to my face back then as I learned of his recent antics.

I know Marguerite loved Louis very much because it was obvious to anyone who saw the two of them together and knew Louis.  Marguerite is a good woman and I am so sorry for her loss.  The only comfort I can give her is to say that we have a loving God who Louis is communing with now.  I hope this brings some measure of comfort to his widow and the rest of his grieving family.

We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Lou.  He was a truly wonderful man who Angelo had the honor to work with  in the Bronx D.A.'s office for many years.  A talented lawyer and loyal friend to everyone.  Our prayers go out to your family at this difficult time.

I was so deeply saddened by the news of Louis’s passing. Louis worked with many of us at the Bronx DA’s office. We were in the same entering class and spend many afternoons covering court parts together. He had the most contagious laugh. We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary at the DA’s office next month. We will be sure to take a moment to remember our colleague and friend, who was gone too soon. My condolences to his family. May his memory be eternal and may he Rest In Peace.

Rest peacefully Louis.   The presence you radiated when you entered a room will be forever missed.  You are truly a man dedicated to helping others.  God bless you.

I met Lou in August 1993 when we were both rookie prosecutors in the Bronx.  Lou had a big shouldered swagger that set him apart even in an office full of confident lawyers.  From the day I met him Lou talked of  wanting to be a great trial lawyer.  He was was willing to take the toughest file on the shortest notice if it would get him a trial.  He had no fear in the courtroom.  When a supervisor voiced concern about whether Lou was ready for one of these early trials he would brush off the concern by saying simply, "what could go wrong?"  He brought that confidence and swagger to his private practice where he was a huge success.  

Lou's star shined brightly in so many ways.  He was funny.  He was strong.  He was a great and loyal friend.  He was his own man.  Proud of where he had come from and where he was headed in life.  He was so   proud of Andrew and Logan and told me stories often of their success in school, in sports and in life always with a twinkle in his eye.  I knew them only a little but through Lou they came alive for me.    His love for Marguerite was fierce and she returned it as a steady source of support in his life.  If Lou's ideas sometimes suffered from enthusiastic exuberance, Marguerite was the balance for him (which was appreciated by all who loved Lou!)

My wife, Amanda, and I will miss him forever.

I was so sorry to hear of Louis's passing this week. Louis, Marguerite, and I toughed out law school in the same class small section, and I was honored to attend their wedding 23 years ago.  I am thinking of Marguerite, their sons, and the Zayas family and hope there is comfort and healing soon.

Growing up he was my little cousin, but Louis became a giant.

Every time we spoke, he would say, “hey handsome, let’s get the cousins together”. It was his idea, however my responsibility to gather everyone and coordinate the event…LOL!

I admired his competiveness and work ethic. It was tough to match. 

His father was so proud of him. Whenever we spoke he would gleam at the successes and accomplishments that his son had achieved.

My heart goes out to Marguerite, Andrew and Logan, my aunt and uncle, cousin Vivian and her daughter Lucia. 

We lost a giant that will never be forgotten.


I met my friend about 27 years ago at The Messon with Willie Ortiz,  and instantly I careed for him and respected him, as he was a genuinely great guy. 

Moreover, he was a man that stood up for what was right and was not afraid to take on anyone, in defense of his friends, his family or his clients! 

I remember he took on a case involving a man who was homeless and had hit a young lady with a brick, hugely famous case. 

When I asked him why would he do that, why would he defend the man who hit a young lady for no reason with a brick?  I'll never forget what he said, he said Ralph he deserves a great defense, no one will defend him and everyone deserves the best possible defense.

I will miss my friend very much, especially talking with him about the law, something we both loved and respected very much.

I will miss him calling me and saying, hay handsome, a line he stole from me. I will miss many, many things about my friend! 

However, I draw a great deal of Solace from the fact that his parents must be immensely proud of the son they raised! That his wife can hold her head up high knowing that he was her husband and love! Moreover, that his children can be proud of the father and man he was! 

I first met Louie 30+ years ago on the football field where he was physically  the strongest player I had ever played against. 
Our paths often crossed at Rutgers where we both went to college and then again many times in the courtroom, where I knew I had to bring my “A” game when Louie was my adversary. 
A few years back he moved to Upper Saddle River, where I live, and our paths crossed again. 
He was a very good football player, an excellent attorney and an even better man. I will miss my friend. RIP brother.
