M. William Johnsen

Magne William Johnsen was born in Lillesand, Norway on July 23, 1921 and went to be with the Lord he loved and served on June 24, 2019 at the age of 97. Bill was the son of Peter and Nancy Johnsen who immigrated to America in 1924. He was the loving husband of Ingeborg Eleanor (Andersen) Johnsen. They were married on Nov. 28, 1942 and had celebrated their 76th anniversary. They have made their home in River Edge for 69 years where they raised their three children. Bill was a tool and die maker and retired from Rexnord in Paramus, NJ. He provided well for his family and enjoyed carpentry, cabinetry, maintaining his home, his yard, his car and playing golf. Bill’s passion was living for and serving the Lord Jesus. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Teaneck, NJ where he served as elder, deacon, and choir member. He faithfully prayed to the end of his life. We who survive him give thanks to God for the life of a great husband, dad, grandfather, and Bestefar.

Bill is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and their three children, David (Karen) Johnsen of Woodstock, CT, Judith (Alan) Skaar of Montvale, NJ, and Allen (Susan) Johnsen of Milford, PA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Timothy (Meaghan) Skaar of Roslindale, MA, Rebecca (James) Andersen of Montague, NJ, Jenny (Clark) Gillett of Eastford, CT, Rachael (Nathan) Bell of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Kathryn (Michael) Hopper of Middletown, NY, Robert (Rebekah) Johnsen of Lititz, PA, Nancy (Jonny) Hickok of Dingmans Ferry, PA; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Haakon) Tonnesen of Warwick, NY; a brother-in-law, Svein Jonssen of New Milford, NJ and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Marge Johnson, Signe Roberts, and Walter Johnsen and three nephews.

A Memorial Service at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Teaneck, NJ is planned for August 17, 2019 at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Teaneck, NJ.
