Mrs. Cartwright was my favorite teacher of all time, and I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. She was also the 4th grade teacher of my older brother. I remember her fondly, always poised and accessorized with a beautiful broach. She taught me long division, linking verbs in the style of a fun song, God Bless America in American Sign Language (which inspired me to study the language later in my academic career), and about nature and wildlife. I painted her a picture of a whale’s tail breaching water and gave it to her as a gift. I remember the stories she’d share about feeding the neighborhood animal in her garage. Most of all, I remember her kindness and generosity. She since inspired me to pursue a degree in teaching, as I aspire to help and inspire others, the way she did for me. I send my deepest condolences to her family and many loved ones.
