Marilyn Frances Thomson (nee Hort) born on July 21st 1935 in Fulton New York, peacefully passed away on October 25th 2022. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Kent Thomson and was the wonderful mother to Cynthia, Kent (Tommy), Marianne and Michael, and proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Marilyn led a joyful and full life and enjoyed gardening, dancing, home decorating and a good beer with a bucket of clams on the waterfront. She graduated from Cortland State College in 1956with a degree in Elementary Educationand always remained a proud Red Dragon throughout her life.
Children were an especially important part of her life and, as a teacher in grade schools and working as the director of Giant Step Nursery School in Freeport, New York, she influenced and inspired hundreds of young minds with her spirit of creativity. Each school year ended with many gifts and thoughtful notes on how much “Missus Mike” was loved and appreciated.
While raising her own children, Marilyn was also able to explore her creative side and love for decorating by working as an interior designer for Ethan Allen. While creating a warm a beautiful home was never far from her mind, she just as easily took “home” on the road, driving and camping cross country with her young children and husband – helping her children discover the wonders of nature, history, and the ability to cook over a camp stove!
Later, upon “retirement” she combined her gift for making every place she resided feel like home when she and Kent operated the Blue Lion Inn, a bed and breakfast in Selinsgrove PA. For nearly 15 years, she and Kent –and the Blue Lion Inn –became an integral part of that community.
A memorial service will be held in Rye, New York on Thursday November 3rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
