
He was the first executive director of Pascack Valley Hospital, from its opening in 1959 to 1981. His death came on the same day that the NJ Dept. of Health approved re-opening Pascack, which he ardently supported. He served as chairman of the Bergen-Passaic Counties Hospital Administrators Association and on several councils of the New Jersey Hospital Association. Born in Waterbury, Conn., Verrastro was a resident of Bergen County for the past 53 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater as a first lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps. He was a graduate of Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Md., and the Columbia University School of Public Health, New York. Nicholas is predeceased by two wives, Iona (Cappelletti) and Frances Kiley. Devoted father of Pamela Paretti and her husband Anthony, Fort Lee; Nicholas D. Verrastro, Westwood; and Christina Minkin and her husband Barry, Albany, NY. Adoring grandfather of Gracie and Jett. Loving step-father of Marietta Territ, Kathy Kiley, and Janet Gundel. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters. He was predeceased by his parents, Canio and Vita Crescenzia Verrastro, and three brothers and a sister.
