Orlando C. Benson

BENSON Orlando Cobourn "Orlie," to all who knew him, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Orlie was born in Hackensack, the only child of Tracey and Nancy Benson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Ellen (nee Memmelaar). Orlie is survived by his daughter, Nancy Moser, her husband Brad and his three grandchildren, Luke, Zack and Brianna. Orlie also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Ruth Veenstra of Haledon, NJ, Joan Niemeyer of San Diego, CA, Carol Englishman of Grand Rapids, MI, and their families.

Orlie was a life-long resident of Hillsdale. He attended Park Ridge High School and the RCA Institute in New York City. He owned and operated Scholastic Audio which served many schools, churches and businesses in the Northern New Jersey area for over 35 years.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westwood where he served as an Elder and as a member of several committees including House and Grounds which he enjoyed the most. Orlie was also a member of the School Board at Zion Lutheran School for several years. He served on the Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps for 12 years.

A Veteran of the U.S. Army, Orlie was a proud member of the Hillsdale American Legion Post 162 and the Park Ridge American Legion Post 153. He was also a member of the Park Ridge Elks Club 2234.

The family will gather with their relatives and friends for the Funeral Service at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Westwood, NJ on Thursday at 10AM. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
