Raymond Edward Johns was a remarkable man by all accounts. He peacefully passed away at the age of 85 on March 3, 2018. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. Beloved husband of Doris for 64 years. Devoted father of Raymond and Diana Johns, Kevin and Gail Johns, and Susie and Vincent Maccaro. Loving "Pop Pop" of Brandon, Ryan, Christopher, Patrick, Vincent, Matthew, Alec, and Kevin. And a Great Grandfather to Graham. He was a devoted ham radio operator and belonged to the Ham Radio club of Washington Township. He worked as the Chief Engineer of WABC in New York and was a lifetime member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, winning two Emmy awards. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8946. He arranged for the VFW chapter to visit wounded service members at Walter Reed, a calling they fulfilled often. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a bombardier gunner on B36's. He was a Cub Scout Leader of Troop 321 and served as a municipal judge for the Juvenile Conference Committee of Washington Township. In addition, he co-initiated the Township's first girls' softball league. Raymond loved his time at sea, as he was an avid sailor. His greatest pleasure was sharing his love for the sea with his family with annual sailing and fishing trips, entertaining his crew-mates with stories, songs, and cherish-able memories. Raymond Johns did remarkable things and he loved and cared for others without expectation. And so for the last time K2OGU signs off. Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, March 9th from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm at Becker Funeral Home 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel 668 Ridgewood Road, Township of Washington, NJ 07676. The burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in River Vale.
