Rev. Peter Kyle Funesti

FUNESTI, Rev. Peter Kyle, 55, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015. Beloved son of Margaret A. Funesti (nee Kennedy) and the late John “Jack” K. Funesti. Dear brother of Julie Esch and her husband Ed, Paul Funesti and his wife Ann, Thomas Funesti and his wife Judy. Loving uncle of Connor and Trevor Esch; Kyle, Collin, Cameron and Casey Funesti; Rick, Tiffany and Justin Martin, and Nicole Squires. Great uncle of Sophia Martin and Hunter Martin. Fr. Peter attended St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, NY. He attended Immaculate Conception School of Theology, South Orange, NJ where he received his Master of Divinity. He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrrick, on December 10, 1988. He served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Sorrows, South Orange, NJ and St. Thomas the Apostle, Bloomfield, NJ. He was named Pastor of Church of the Nativity, Midland Park, NJ in July of 2007. Fr. Peter has served on the Archdiocese of Newark Word on Worship, Vocations Board and Engaged Encounter. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, NJ on Thursday, June 4 from 2-7PM, with a Vigil Mass to begin at 7PM. The Funeral Liturgy celebrating Fr. Peter’s life,priesthood and faith will be on Friday, June 5 at the church at 10AM. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Fr. Peter’s name to St. Joseph’s Home, 140 Shepherd Lane, Totowa, NJ 07512. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, NJ.
