Richard Charles Heissler

Richard Charles Heissler, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born on June 13, 1947, Richard grew up in Dumont, New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen. Together they built a wonderful life in New Milford, New Jersey, where they raised their four children and created countless memories over many years together.

Richard was the devoted husband of Mary Ellen and a loving father to Jeffrey (Michelle), Kristene (Jon), Richard, and Kennith (Tyler). He was a proud grandfather to Justin, Kimberly, Liam, Samantha, Sean, Paige, Owen, and Ryan, who brought him endless pride and joy.

A hardworking man with an unmatched work ethic, Richard founded and operated R & J Transmission for more than 55 years. His shop was more than a business; it was his second home. Known as an honest mechanic, he earned the trust and loyalty of generations of customers who respected him for his integrity. Richard believed in doing the job right, treating people fairly, and standing behind his work.

Family was always Richard's greatest priority. He was always there for his children, never missing a sporting event and proudly coaching many of their teams throughout the years. He believed in leading by example, teaching his children the values of hard work, honesty, and responsibility. He also loved planning family vacations, creating traditions and memories that his family will cherish forever.

Fishing was Richard's greatest passion. Whether on the St. Lawrence River, Lake Sacandaga, or off the shores of Long Beach Island, he was happiest on the water. Starting with a simple rowboat and eventually owning a fishing boat, he spent countless hours enjoying the sport he loved. He also shared that love of the water with his children, teaching each of them how to fish and waterski. Those days spent out on the boat became some of the family's most treasured memories.

Richard will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, and dependable man who always put his family first. He earned the respect of everyone who knew him through his kindness, integrity, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Although he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the values he instilled in them. They will forever picture him where he was happiest—on his boat, fishing with the people he loved most.
