On August 15, 2017, Robert M. Cannon left this life as he lived it, with dignity and gentleness. Bob was born in New York City on September 8, 1925 to Regina (nee Wolfrum) and James Cannon, the youngest of their four children. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School and is a graduate of NYU. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Navy and was in active service until 1946. In 1950, he met the woman who would become his wife. Bob and Ronnie (nee Veronica Pauselius) wed in 1955 and enjoyed nearly 62 years of unparalleled marital devotion. Together they traveled to destinations near and far, enjoyed West Point football games preceded by a tailgate meal, attended community theater productions, and engaged in routine tasks such as grocery shopping … always side-by-side.
For most of his career, Bob worked as a credit manager for Burlington Industries in New York City after several years in banking. Retirement offered time for more social and recreational activities including VFW membership and the camaraderie of friends in the Activities Unlimited club with whom he also enjoyed bowling. He was an active volunteer at Pascack Valley Hospital for 19 years.
Bob was predeceased by sister Julia McCarthy and brothers James and William Cannon and leaves behind his beloved wife Ronnie and many nieces and nephews. Those who knew Bob well will recall his understated humor, delivered deadpan, with only a twinkle in his eye as evidence of his intent.
